Hello, Friday Fiction Fans! Yes, I know the heading is non-fiction and I apologize. I don’t often deviate from fiction but this week is special. I’m at the Blue Lake Christian Writer’s Conference taking classes, meeting friends, and enjoying the company of other like-minded writers. In honor of this time, I’ll share a writing book that has really helped me:
Rivet Your Readers with Deep Point of View by Jill Elizabeth Nelson.
You might ask, what is deep point of view? The ability to write fiction that silences any narrative voice so the reader only experiences what the POV character in any given scene is experiencing.
I had to work hard to grasp this concept that makes an author’s writing feel so real. Like you’re in the book with the character. I still struggle at times to stay in deep point of view but Nelson’s wonderful book helped me with good information, easy-to-understand instructions, and a lot of wisdom.
If you’re a writer of fiction, don’t miss reading this book. I highly recommend it.
Rivet Your Readers with Deep Point of View
Dear Novelist: Would you like your readers to live your stories, not merely read them? Deep Point of View anchors your readers inside the point of view character(s) of your novel. This handbook shows you how to perform the transformation from ordinary narrative to deep narrative in clear, easy-to-master steps. I invite you to sweep your writing to the next level with a technique that creates immediacy and intimacy with your readers and virtually eliminates show/don’t tell issues. My Best to You, Jill
I found this book very helpful too because so many people at so many conferences kept saying I had to write show don’t tell. But then they didn’t tell me what that meant.
