Hi. I’m Jennifer.
And I’m a reader.
Not just any reader.
An avid reader.
Like 100 books a year avid. And I’m not ashamed. Reading is definitely my superpower. It helps widen my scope on the world, cultures, races, gender, etc. Reading takes me all over the world, through all times, and out of time. And if you follow me, you know I love time travel. I plan on reading many books this summer, digging deeper into YA.
I’m afraid reading is becoming a lost art among some of our younger generations. Yes, they read but it’s more along the line of texts, chats, Tic Toks, and messages. I see the lack in my grandchildren and it makes me kinda sad.
The days of checking out thirty books a month from the bookmobile might be over for many, but there is a spark of hope among the lesser-aged readers. My latest novel, a YA Southern time-shifting book, Smoking Flax has been well-received by all ages. People are reading my book and I hope many of those readers are young people. I know a high school book club is reading it now and that makes me happy.
So, I’d like to know. Do the young people in your life still read? How about you? Is reading your superpower? And do you have a reading goal for summer 2024?

“If a book is well written, I always find it too short.” ― Jane Austen
Me too, Jane. Me too…
Both my kids are in high school. The oldest is an avid reader. He love Nero Wolfe mysteries, Star Wars novels, and books by James R. Hannibal. My youngest likes mysteries but also likes to read nonfiction about his hobbies, like old cars and tractors.
That’s awesome, Jennifer. I love to hear about young readers ❤️
