Hello, Friday Fiction Friends! I hope you’re finding wonderful books to enjoy every day. I mentioned in an earlier post that I would focus on reviewing middle-grade and young-adult novels and here’s my first middle novel of 2024.
Skull Creek Stakeout, Book 2 in the Caden Chronicles, is a gem I recently found in a Christian bookstore. Eddie Jones writes books focused on the market for boys and teens, one that needs more books that are clean but still appealing to tweens and teens. (Plus adults like me) 🙂
Here’s the book back copy:

When Nick finds a body on a golf course with fangs, bite marks, and a hole in its chest, he wonders: Is the victim a vampire? Nick is about to learn there is blood that gives eternal life and it has nothing to do with Dracula.
Nick Caden has a “supernatural” knack for finding trouble, and his relentless search for the truth leads him into worlds of darkness with grave consequences and really creepy mysteries. After solving the Deadwood ghost story, Nick lands a job as a roving reporter for The Cool Ghoul Gazette, a website on paranormal disturbances. When the editor sends Nick to Transylvania, North Carolina, Nick finds there is a type of blood that gives eternal life but it has nothing to do with death, darkness, and corpses in caskets.
Is the victim a real vampire? Or will Nick find that his new job is about to suck the life out of him? Some facts and truths will scare the life out of us and that can be a good thing.
A cool vampire book. It’s funny because I’m also working my way through Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a good but super long read. In book two, Nick is a reporter for The Cool Ghoul Gazette. How much more adventure could a teen have than a job like that? He soon finds out it’s not all fun and games but a real mystery that needs to be solved. And Nick, along with his aunt and a newly found friend, are ready to tackle the job. Better find some garlic and a silver bullet before you dive into this novel.
I recommend any books in The Caden Chronicles to a tween or teen in your life for clean, spooky fun.
