Hi, Friday Fiction Friends! I love to read. Since you’re checking out this post, I assume you do also. Books are a great way to escape, learn, relax, and even heal. I read many novels and nonfiction books each year, even while I’m in the midst of writing my own.
My team and I share book reviews in the following genres:
- Fantasy
- Science Fiction
- Space Opera
- Supernatural
- Horror
- Magic Realism
- Slipstream
- Steampunk
- Dystopian
- Utopian
- Mysteries (not cozy)
- Classic Speculative (think Jules Verne, Ray Bradbury, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien)
I thought it would be fun to let you know some of my favorite books in each of these genres. Drum roll, please…
- Fantasy-The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. Classic fantasy series in a magical world.
- Science Fiction- A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. Classic science fiction adventure in space and time.
- Space Opera-Star Wars: A New Hope by George Lucas. Yes, I know many people don’t consider this space opera but I do.
- Supernatural- Rooms by James L. Rubart. Profound spiritual suspense and mystery.
- Horror-Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. A true classic and an awesome movie too.
- Magic Realism- The Day the Angels Fell by Shawn Smucker. A wonderful story of mystery and magic.
- Slipstream-I actually don’t think I’ve read any. Suggestions, anyone?
- Steampunk-Maiden of Iron: A Steampunk Fable by Edie Melson. Robin Hood in Steampunk. Intriguing.
- Dystopian-1984 by George Orwell. A classic tale of the future with Big Brother and absolute power.
- Utopian-The Giver by Lois Lowry. An ideal world on the outside but full of dark secrets.
- Mysteries (not cozy)-The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Have read this fabulous mystery over and over.
- Classic Speculative- The Lord of the Rings Series by J.R.R. Tolkien. Unrivaled medieval fantasy. This book set includes The Hobbit.
So many great books. So little time in the day to read. How about you, my friends? Do you have a favorite in any of these genres? I’d love to hear about it. I can add it to my TBR list.
