A young man comes back from war angry and depressed. When he left, he had his future all planned out. After his time in Iraq, He would return home to his fiancée. They would marry and have children and settle into a nice life in the South.
Instead, he came back after just under two years, unable to move his arms or legs, dependent on others for everything. Not wanting to face the rest of his life unable to care for himself and unable to return to his career, he decides to end his life—only he can’t, since he can’t move. Now he has to learn how to live with his new life.
Meanwhile, his fiancee’ faces decisions about whether to continue their plans for marriage with having take care of him physically, but figuring out how to help him emotionally and spiritually–if she can.
Travelers Rest is a well-written story that kept my interest to the end.
