Hello, hope-filled friends! Today’s word for hope is snow.
Snow?
Really? I can hear my brother now as he points out the fact that in Anchorage in 2024, they experienced 133 inches of the white, fluffy stuff. So much that it came within an inch of breaking a record. But in Alabama, snow is as rare as …
- an eclipse
- a presidential election
- a white Christmas
Snow doesn’t come often. But when it does, the grocery stores are cleared out of food. People fill up their gas tanks and get ready to be snowed in. (Yes, no snow plows mean we aren’t going anywhere. At least on the back roads.) Chili is cooked. Snow cream recipes come out of hiding and board games are readied for the big day.
On Friday, January 10th, we woke to a white winter wonderland here, eventually measuring five inches of snow. By Sunday, it had melted enough to go to church but two glorious days of hot chocolate, watching the grands make snow angels, and my small dog romping through the snow like a puppy.
Hope. Jeremiah 29:11 in the NLT says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God has plans for me. Somehow, each time I see snow, every time I witness a rainbow, a beautiful sunset, or the ocean waves, I’m amazed, astounded, and hope-filled. God’s creation. God’s glory.
God’s hope. Creation and all its wonders bring me hope. How about you? What have you witnessed in nature that helps you carry on another day? Leave a comment below…
