Every year, I take a few moments during December to seek God for direction and focus for the following year. This time, the word came from a radio station. As I drove to town, listening to my local Christian station, they mentioned giving. Nothing big but it nestled in my spirit. I kept looking, thinking it was such a tiny nudge. However, my thoughts always returned to giving, so I will concentrate on this in 2025. Throughout the year, when times are good or not so good, I’ll remember what God spoke and ask Him how it will apply to my situation.

Here are my verses for 2025: “Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully … Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. So, two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God” (II Corinthians 9: 6-7; 11-12, NLT).

How does giving relate to hope? For me, every time I minister to another human being, I feel refreshed. Energized. Hope-filled. There’s just something about focusing my attention on another and looking away from all the daily stresses and anxiety I deal with. And if I ask Jesus to help me meet other’s needs, I’m focused on Him and giving.

What could be better than that?

How has giving and helping others sparked hope in your life? Do you have a word or focus for 2025? I’d love to chat with you in the comment section …
