Today, I’m saddened by the passing of a great friend. To say I’m struggling is an understatement. So, I’ll just share the words to this wonderful traditional hymn by Edward Mote that has stood the test of time.
My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]
3 His oath, his covenant, his blood,
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]
4 When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found:
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]
What hymns give you hope? What contemporary hymns do you turn to? One of my favorites is The Goodness of God.
I am so sorry about the loss of your friend. Some of the hymns I turn to are: “Rejoice, the Lord is King”, “How Firm a Foundation”, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”.
Thank you, Jennifer. Those are all good hymns too…
I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying for you and sending love and hugs.
Thank you, Melissa. It’s so hard losing friends 🥺
My condolences on the loss of your friend. We do have an anchor, a hope, and a peace that passes understanding.
