By Jennifer Hallmark

Hello, Friday Fiction Fans!

I’m excited to kick off a brand new season and segment of reviewing books. During the pandemic, I signed up for coaching/marketing classes at the Rubart Writing Academy. (Since I was home all the time) The main thing we’ve been working on is my brand. As in, who I am as a writer, what stories I like, and what stories I want to tell.

The answer might surprise you but it made perfect sense to me. I’ve always enjoyed books that are a bit different: allegories, fantasy, science fiction, supernatural, and mysteries with an unpredictable twist. But my website and blog didn’t reflect this at all. So, I’m reworking it. If you have a moment, please look over my site. It’s a work-in-progress but I’d like to know what you think so far. Here are my ideas for the new Friday Fiction segment:

Friday Fiction: Books From Off the Beaten Track

My team and I will be sharing book reviews in the following genres:

  • Fantasy
  • Science Fiction
  • Space Opera
  • Supernatural
  • Horror
  • Magic Realism
  • Slipstream
  • Steampunk
  • Dystopian
  • Utopian
  • Mysteries (not cozy)
  • Classic Speculative (think Jules Verne, Ray Bradbury, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien)
I hope you’ll enjoy these unique books and stories.

Now to introduce a new contributor to the blog. Drum roll, please…

Meet A.S. Hardin.
A.S. Hardin has relished a love for reading and writing since childhood. Her eclectic, adventurous spirit shows in both the books she chooses and in the worlds she creates. Aside from a number of virtual book clubs, she is also a member of the Lawrence County Writer’s Guild, and she participates annually in NaNoWrMo events.
When not reading or writing, A.S. loves to spend time running, hiking, playing a few video games, as well as engaging in a good campaign of Dungeons and Dragons. She also enjoys listening to podcasts like “Sawbones” and “The Dead Robots Society.” A few of her favorite authors are James Rollins, Dean Koontz, and Anne McCaffery. She has a passion for cultivating a love of reading in others, especially younger generations. You can follow her on Pinterest, Instagram, or Goodreads.
I know you’ll enjoy her reviews.

Please check out my first new review on Friday, August 7th. (my birthday). 🙂 One of my dear writer friends has a new book out and I know you’re going to love it…
